The key learning area of Technological and Applied Studies at St Joseph’s Catholic High School brings together a variety of disciplines with different origins and traditions, all sharing an interest in effective learning and practical experiences based on a range of Technologies.
At St Joseph’s Catholic High School we aim to make the Technological and Applied Studies programs a relevant and important part of the students’ curriculum and life. To achieve this, a wide range of subjects and learning events are employed. The programs are designed to give the students the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes that will help them to become independent thinkers.
Stage 4 – Technology Mandatory
Students in Stage 4 are able to independently initiate design projects and investigations that reflect an understanding of needs and opportunities. They demonstrate the ability to research and extract information from a variety of sources, and a willingness to use experiments and tests to build on existing designs and enhance the development of a design project. They describe factors that influence design. Students recognise the importance of safety, quality and management in the design and production of design projects through Project Based Learning.
Stage 5 – Electives
The TAS department offers a broad range of electives to students in year 9 and 10. Each elective is based around a specific area of study and its related industry.
