Student Wellbeing

At St Joseph’s Catholic High School, student wellbeing is central to who we are and how we work.

Guided by Catholic values and the priorities of Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student is known, valued and supported to thrive.

A Catholic Approach to Student Wellbeing

Our pastoral care approach reflects the Gospel call to dignity, compassion and justice. We recognise that young people learn best when they feel safe, connected and supported, and when their social, emotional, spiritual and academic needs are addressed together.

Wellbeing at St Joseph’s is a shared responsibility, supported through strong relationships between students, staff, families and parish.

Pastoral Care Structures

Student wellbeing is supported through a strong and coordinated pastoral care framework that includes:

  • Stage-based Pastoral and Learning Support Leaders (PALS)
  • GROW Teachers
  • Student leadership and peer support initiatives
  • Clear processes for care, communication and follow-up

These structures ensure students are supported academically, socially and emotionally throughout their time at St Joseph’s.

Inclusive and Proactive Support

We are committed to supporting students with diverse learning, social and emotional needs. Early identification, personalised support strategies and strong collaboration with families ensure students are supported to engage positively in learning and school life.

Student Voice and Belonging

We value student voice and encourage students to take an active role in shaping a positive school culture. Leadership opportunities, service initiatives and wellbeing feedback mechanisms foster a strong sense of belonging and shared responsibility.

A Safe and Supportive Environment

St Joseph’s is committed to child safety and student wellbeing. Clear expectations, consistent processes and a culture of care ensure our school remains a safe place for all students.
