At St Joseph’s Catholic High School we aim to make the Technology and Applied Studies programs a relevant and important part of the students’ curriculum and life. To achieve this, a wide range of subjects and learning events are employed. The programs are designed to give the students the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes that will help them to become independent thinkers.
Students in Stage 4 are able to independently initiate design projects and investigations that reflect an understanding of needs and opportunities. They demonstrate the ability to research and extract information from a variety of sources, and a willingness to use experiments and tests to build on existing designs and enhance the development of a design project. They describe factors that influence design. Students recognise the importance of safety, quality and management in the design and production of design projects through Project-Based Learning.
The TAS department offers a broad range of electives to students in Year 9 and 10. Each elective is based around a specific area of study and its related industry. Projects within each area are designed and developed through folio work according to Board of Studies guidelines. Students are then given opportunities to make their individual projects in one of our specialised rooms.
