Humanities and Social Sciences (HSIE)

It is important for our students to understand the ideas, events and institutions that have shaped and continue to influence our world today.

Learning in HSIE

HSIE at St Joseph’s enables students to understand people, societies, economies and environments, both past and present. Aligned with NESA HSIE syllabuses, students develop informed perspectives and responsible citizenship.

Stage 4 and Stage 5 (Years 7–10)

Students study:

  • Geography
  • Civics and Citizenship

Stage 5 Elective options include:

  • Commerce
  • History Elective
  • Geography Elective

Learning develops historical inquiry, geographical skills, economic understanding and ethical decision-making.

Stage 6 (Years 11–12)

Senior courses may include:

  • Modern History
  • Ancient History
  • Geography
  • Business Studies
  • Legal Studies
  • Economics
  • Society and Culture

These courses develop research, analysis and evaluation skills aligned with NESA HSC standards.
