At the heart of all courses and classes within the English Faculty is the human ability and affinity to use language.

Learning in English

English at St Joseph’s Catholic High School develops students as confident communicators, critical thinkers and informed citizens. Aligned with the NESA English syllabus, the English curriculum builds students’ skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing across a wide range of texts and contexts.

Students are encouraged to engage deeply with language, literature and ideas, developing the ability to interpret the world around them and express their thinking clearly and creatively.

Stage 4 and Stage 5 (Years 7–10)
