Retreats and Reflection Days
For Catholic schools, the mission is the "formation of the whole person." This includes the spiritual side. Our retreat and reflection experiences move faith from a head-knowledge exercise into a heart-centred experience. In the classroom, students learn the "what" and "why" of theology; on retreat and at reflection days, students explore the "who"—specifically, who God is to them and who they are in relation to the Divine.
By stepping away from the frantic pace of academic life, students enter a space of intentional silence and guided reflection that allows their personal faith to grow in three distinct ways:
- Authentic Encounter: Through personal prayer, journaling, and the Sacraments (like Reconciliation and the Eucharist), students experience God as a personal presence. Students are during retreats and reflection days are encouraged to move past current perceptions and engage in an honest, internal dialogue.
- Peer Witnessing: Hearing classmates and teachers share their own struggles and moments of grace is often the most powerful part of the retreat and reflection day experience. It helps students realise they aren't alone in their doubts or fears, making faith feel relevant to the modern teenage experience.
- Ownership of Belief: Retreats challenge students to look at the way they act and own their faith. They are provided the opportunity to reflect on their personal faith beliefs and how they are guided by these beliefs in their daily interactions.
