A Living Legacy

Josephite Charism continues today through the work of the Sisters of St Joseph and Josephite ministries across Australia. In our school, it is lived through everyday actions, relationships and decisions that place faith, care and justice at the centre of school life.

the spirit of Saint Mary MacKillop, we strive to “never see a need without doing something about it.”

The Josephite Charism

The Josephite Charism is at the heart of our school’s identity and mission. It shapes the way we educate, care for one another and serve our community.

Founded in Australia by Saint Mary MacKillop and Father Julian Tenison Woods in 1866, the Josephite tradition was built on a simple but powerful vision: to provide education, care and hope to those most in need, particularly the poor and those living on the margins.

What the Josephite Charism Means

The Josephite Charism is grounded in Gospel values and expressed through:

  • Compassion and dignity – recognising the worth of every person
  • Justice and service – responding to need with courage and action
  • Faith and trust in God – especially in times of challenge
  • Presence and humility – walking alongside others with respect and care

Our Josephite Values

Inspired by the life of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, we espouse the values of respect, courage, hospitality, compassion, justice, humility and service.

Living the Charism in Our School

As a Josephite school, we seek to live this charism each day through:

  • Strong pastoral care and wellbeing structures
  • Inclusive learning that values every student
  • Commitment to social justice and service
  • Partnerships with families, parish and community
  • A learning environment grounded in respect, compassion and high expectations
