Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education

St Joseph’s Catholic High School acknowledges the Dharawal people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our school stands. We pay our respect to Elders past and present and recognise their ongoing connection to land, culture and community.

In alignment with the priorities of Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong, St Joseph’s is committed to promoting reconciliation, justice and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We seek to create a culturally safe and inclusive learning environment where the dignity, identity and strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are recognised and valued.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are embedded across teaching and learning programs, supporting all students to develop understanding of Australia’s shared history and to build respect for the world’s oldest continuing cultures. Through curriculum, pastoral care and community engagement, students are encouraged to walk together in truth, respect and reconciliation.

Through learning, reflection and action, St Joseph’s seeks to contribute to a more just, inclusive and reconciled community.

We are committed to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to achieve high educational outcomes through inclusive practices, targeted support where required and strong partnerships with families and relevant agencies. Guided by Catholic social teaching, we strive to ensure every student feels known, supported and empowered to succeed.

Through learning, reflection and action, St Joseph’s seeks to contribute to a more just, inclusive and reconciled community.
